The second solid construction seminar at Kiel University of Applied Sciences was a great success. The event offered exciting insights into current research topics as well as practical examples from civil engineering. An intensive exchange between students, lecturers and experts from the construction industry developed around specialist lectures, project presentations and an accompanying exhibition.
One highlight of the seminar was the presentation of outstanding engineering structures, including the Rendsburg highway bridge and the planned Fehmarnsund crossing. Particular interest was also shown in the presentation of the excellent bachelor thesis by our student trainee Patrick Widell. Under the title "Review of design approaches for the load-bearing capacity of reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete components under torsion and combined loading" he examined various design models using an extensive test database. The work was carried out as part of a research project by the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) and provided valuable findings for the assessment of existing structures. This resulted in two publications - in the BASt final report and in of the trade journal "Concrete and reinforced concrete construction".
The event was accompanied by information stands from engineering firms, construction companies and building material manufacturers - we were also represented with a stand. The solid construction seminar once again proved to be an inspiring platform for knowledge transfer and networking in the construction industry.
