For decades, a foot and cycle path bridge has spanned the Mühlenbach stream at Polierteich in Schleswig.
After a structural inspection of the old vaulted bridge in 2018 revealed serious damage to the superstructure, we were commissioned with the project and structural planning as well as the construction supervision of a new structure.
Based on a neighboring bridge, the city of Schleswig opted for a low-maintenance, unobtrusive corrugated steel tube structure that blends in well with the natural surroundings. Accordingly, the adjacent path surface of graded mineral mixture (= Grandweg) continues over the bridge.
The construction work was carried out in cooperation with the Nübel water and soil association. The work focused on ensuring nature conservation (such as deterrence and tree protection measures), as well as lowering the groundwater and diverting the water to create a dry excavation pit.
